Coventry is in the middle of its largest city-centre rebuild in decades, while the motorway edges of the city continue to host engineering, research and distribution sites. For security buyers that means two very different types of contract. Phased, high-exposure construction sites sit in the centre, and large, perimeter-heavy facilities sit around the M6, M69 and A45.

We have no Coventry office, and construction is one of the sectors our services are built around.
The Coventry commercial landscape
City Centre South is the main construction programme. The council’s development agreement with The Hill Group became unconditional in December 2025. Demolition of the Barracks car park and City Arcade has finished, and phase one is under way, with up to 1,575 homes planned across the whole scheme plus commercial space and public realm. Next to the railway station, Friargate is a council-led business district of around 37 acres. One Friargate houses the city council and public-sector occupiers, Two Friargate is occupied, and a Hotel Indigo opened in 2024.
On the north-east edge of the city, Ansty Park near M6 junction 2 is an advanced engineering and manufacturing park, home to the Manufacturing Technology Centre. Prologis Park Coventry at Keresley, close to M6 junction 3, is a large distribution location. South of the city, the former Coventry Airport site at Baginton, whose operator gave notice of closure to flights in June 2026, is being redeveloped as Greenpower Park, a council and Rigby Group joint venture planned for battery and advanced manufacturing. Enabling works have been approved; no anchor occupier had been confirmed at the time of writing.
Local security requirements
Each of Coventry’s contract types has its own priorities.
- Phased city-centre works: security plans must change as demolition gives way to construction, gates move and neighbouring premises reopen. Revised assignment instructions are issued at each phase.
- Public-sector and regulated occupiers: buildings housing regulators or public bodies may require officers to follow occupier-specific vetting and confidentiality procedures.
- Large open sites: pre-development land such as the former airport site needs perimeter monitoring over long distances. Off-grid towers and patrols are usually more practical than static posts.
- Data: CCTV used on any of these sites must comply with UK GDPR and ICO guidance.
How we mobilise and manage contracts here
We survey each Coventry site, agree assignment instructions, brief the officers assigned to the contract and schedule supervisory visits. Mobile patrols use marked, satellite-tracked vehicles, and officers record visits digitally. CCTV towers and lighting towers can be delivered for sites without power. Our 24-hour control room supports officers on shift. Start dates are agreed per site; urgent requests are handled through emergency security cover.
Questions
Can you secure a demolition or construction site in Coventry city centre?
Yes. City-centre sites usually need an officer controlling the gate during working hours, then towers, scaffold alarms or patrols overnight.
Do you screen officers for offices with public-sector occupiers?
Officers carrying out licensable work hold SIA licences, which involve identity and criminality checks. Some occupiers set further screening requirements, often referencing BS 7858. We confirm what your contract requires and how we will meet it before mobilisation. We do not claim certification to that standard.
Can you control HGV access at a distribution site near the M6?
Our guarding service can be set up for gatehouse work at distribution sites. This includes checking vehicles against booking lists, recording trailer and seal numbers where required, and patrolling yards and perimeters. Procedures are written with your transport team.
