Bristol work falls into two main areas. North-west of the city, the flat estuary land at Avonmouth and Severnside, close to the M5 and M49, is dominated by large-format warehouses, which have long perimeters, round-the-clock HGV traffic and few people on site at night. In the centre, the land around Temple Meads station is being rebuilt as a new quarter, with a university campus, offices and homes going up beside the station.

The Bristol commercial landscape
The Avonmouth and Severnside Enterprise Area spans land in Bristol and South Gloucestershire beside the Severn Estuary. To unlock development there, South Gloucestershire Council led a flood defence and ecology mitigation scheme with Bristol City Council and the Environment Agency. It provides around 17 km of new and improved defences from Lamplighters Marsh in Bristol to Aust, plus about 80 hectares of new wetland habitat, and its construction was reported complete in summer 2025. The Severn Estuary is a protected site, and that shapes how land next to it can be used and lit.
Bristol Temple Quarter is a 135-hectare regeneration programme around Temple Meads, led by Bristol City Council, the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, Network Rail and Homes England. It targets 22,000 jobs and 10,000 homes. Its anchor, the University of Bristol’s Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus on the former Royal Mail sorting office site, was scheduled to open in September 2026. Temple Quarter is also among the enterprise zones listed by government.
Local security requirements
Common points in a Bristol specification:
- Estuary-edge sites. Severnside land is exposed and often next to protected habitat. CCTV towers and solar lighting towers can secure plots without permanent fixtures. Lighting direction may need agreeing with the site’s planning conditions.
- Perimeter length. Very large sheds can have perimeters too long for one officer on foot. A mix of gatehouse cover, vehicle patrols and monitored cameras is usually more effective.
- Stations and public routes. Sites around Temple Meads border heavy pedestrian traffic. Gate staff must manage deliveries without blocking public routes, and incident reporting should include contact with rail and police partners where relevant.
- Phased handover. As campus and office buildings are completed, security usually moves from contractor control to the occupier. Plan the change in guarding scope before handover, not after.
How we mobilise and manage contracts here
Seccuro has no Bristol office. Officers are inducted on site before deployment. Mobilisation starts with a survey and written assignment instructions. We agree supervision visits, the reporting format and contract review dates with you. Mobile patrol and alarm response arrangements for Bristol, Avonmouth and South Gloucestershire are agreed per site, and no standard response time is promised.
Questions
Can you provide 24/7 gatehouse security at an Avonmouth distribution centre?
Yes. Seccuro’s guarding service can run a continuous gatehouse operation, covering driver check-in, trailer and seal logs, visitor control and yard patrols. Assignment instructions are built around your shift changes and booking system. Every shift produces a written occurrence log.
Are CCTV towers suitable for Severnside development plots?
Often, yes. Off-grid CCTV towers need no mains power or refuelling, which suits open, unserviced plots. We agree camera positions and lighting during the survey.
Do you cover South Gloucestershire as well as Bristol?
Yes. Seccuro provides services across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and the wider South West as part of its UK-wide coverage.
What does construction security near Temple Meads involve?
Usually gate control during working hours, then CCTV towers and patrols out of hours. Scaffold alarm cameras are added as structures rise. Incident reports go to your site manager and can include CCTV references.
