Stoke-on-Trent is a polycentric city of six historic towns. Hanley serves as the city centre, and industry is strung along the A500 “D-road” between M6 junctions 15 and 16. Its industrial legacy has left a large stock of former works, kilns and brownfield land. Some of it is being redeveloped as modern employment space, and some is waiting for a scheme. Those vacant and transitional properties make up a large share of the city’s security workload, alongside its operating factories and distribution units. Seccuro has no office in Staffordshire.

The Stoke-on-Trent commercial landscape

The Ceramic Valley Enterprise Zone, led by Stoke-on-Trent City Council, comprises six sites totalling around 140 hectares along the A500 corridor. They are Tunstall Arrow, Chatterley Valley East and West (the latter in Newcastle-under-Lyme), Highgate/Ravensdale, Etruria Valley and Cliffe Vale. Etruria Valley, the former Shelton Bar steelworks, is linked to the A500 by the Etruria Valley Link Road and includes Etruria Valley Business Park, home to bet365’s headquarters and the council-built Etruria Trade Park units. The council has proposed extending the zone’s business rates discount for a further five years from 2026.

In Hanley, the council has chosen Genr8 Kajima Regeneration as preferred partner for Etruscan Square, on the former bus station site. Plans include homes, leisure and commercial space, with first-phase construction now expected from 2027 after site preparation. The city’s other large employers include Michelin’s Stoke-on-Trent site and the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

Local security requirements

Stoke-on-Trent contracts often involve property that is empty or changing use. When we scope these we check:

  • what the building insurer requires, for example inspection frequency or utility isolation, and record it in the assignment instructions;
  • access points, boarding, roof access and the condition of perimeter fencing at the first inspection;
  • whether temporary alarms, scaffold alarm cameras or CCTV towers would reduce the number of patrol visits needed;
  • how emergency repairs will be authorised if officers find damage, since we can coordinate approved contractors on your instruction;
  • for operating sites, alarm response and keyholding, so staff are not sent alone to activations at night.

How we mobilise and manage contracts here

A manager visits each Stoke-on-Trent site for the survey, and officers are assigned and briefed for the contract. Supervisory visits are scheduled in advance rather than left to chance. Mobile patrols use marked, satellite-tracked vehicles, and every inspection or alarm call produces a digital report. Our 24-hour control room supports officers on shift. Start dates and attendance times are confirmed per site in writing; we do not promise response times before assessing the location.

Services in Stoke-on-Trent
Can you inspect a vacant former works building in Stoke-on-Trent?

Yes. Inspections check the perimeter, boarding, doors, roofs and signs of entry, and can include utility checks such as water and electrics where you instruct us. Each visit produces a report with photographs, which many clients pass to their insurer.

Can you protect a new unit under construction on an enterprise zone plot?

Yes. Typical packages combine an officer at the gate during working hours with off-grid CCTV towers or lighting towers overnight, plus mobile patrols. Where scaffold is erected, wireless scaffold alarm cameras can detect climbing and movement on the structure.

What happens if a patrol finds a break-in at an empty property?

The officer secures the scene where safe, contacts the police if a crime is suspected and notifies you under the escalation plan in the assignment instructions. With your authority we can coordinate emergency boarding or repairs through approved contractors, and you receive a written incident report.
