Glasgow’s commercial geography follows the Clyde. Financial and business services cluster around the Broomielaw on the north bank. Upstream in the east end, large areas of former industrial land are being cleaned up and rebuilt for homes, manufacturing and research space. Downstream, business parks around Glasgow Airport combine manufacturing, logistics and office uses.

The Glasgow commercial landscape
The International Financial Services District (IFSD) was launched in 2001 by Glasgow City Council and Scottish Enterprise to regenerate the Broomielaw and west city centre. The council describes it as having grown into the brand for Glasgow’s financial and business services community, with large modern office buildings occupied by international firms.
To the east, Clyde Gateway is an urban regeneration company formed in 2008 by Glasgow City Council, South Lanarkshire Council and Scottish Enterprise. It covers Bridgeton, Dalmarnock, Rutherglen and Shawfield. When it was established, the area contained around 300 hectares of vacant and derelict land. Remediation remains central to the programme, including Scottish Government-funded clean-up of chromium contamination at Shawfield. West of the city, the Glasgow Airport Investment Area, a Renfrewshire Council project funded through the Glasgow City Region City Deal, is improving links between the Westway, Inchinnan and Airport business parks.
Local security requirements
Scotland-specific points to check:
- SIA licensing in Scotland. The Private Security Industry Act 2001 was extended to Scotland, and SIA licences became compulsory for licensable roles there from 1 November 2007. The SIA regulates the industry in Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government. For applicants living in Scotland, the SIA’s criminal record check is normally made through Disclosure Scotland.
- Scots law. Property and trespass law in Scotland differs from England and Wales, and the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 created statutory public access rights over much land, with exclusions such as building sites.
- Contaminated land. On remediation sites, officers must follow the principal contractor’s exclusion zones and health and safety rules, and must not enter controlled areas without authorisation.
- Data protection. UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and ICO guidance apply to CCTV in Scotland as across the UK.
How we mobilise and manage contracts here
Seccuro has no office in Glasgow or elsewhere in Scotland. Officers are inducted on site before the first shift, with a briefing on Scotland-specific site rules. Mobilisation starts with a survey and written assignment instructions. Supervision visits, reporting and response arrangements are agreed for each site, with no standard response time promised.
Questions
Is an SIA licence required for security work in Scotland?
Yes. Officers carrying out licensable activities, such as security guarding, must hold the appropriate SIA front-line licence and display it while on duty.
Does Scots law change what your officers can do on site?
It can. Instructions for dealing with unauthorised people are written for Scottish sites, using any legal advice the client holds. Officers observe, warn, record and call police where needed.
Can you secure a remediation site in the Clyde Gateway area?
Yes. Typical cover includes gate and access control during works, and CCTV towers and patrols out of hours. Incident reports go to the site manager after every event.
Do you cover Renfrewshire and South Lanarkshire as well as Glasgow?
Yes. Seccuro provides services across the Glasgow city region, including Renfrewshire and South Lanarkshire, as part of its UK-wide coverage.
