Walsall’s economy still leans on manufacturing and distribution, with industrial premises spread across Darlaston, Willenhall, Aldridge and the land either side of the M6. Much of that land is now being remediated and redeveloped. Those two features, established works that run shifts and brownfield sites under construction, shape most of the security requests we see from the borough. Seccuro has no Walsall office.

The Walsall commercial landscape

The borough sits on the M6 between junctions 9 and 10. National Highways completed the £78 million rebuild of junction 10 in 2024, replacing the old bridges and widening the roundabout, which improved access to the employment land around it.

Darlaston hosts 14 of the 19 sites in the Black Country Enterprise Zone, covered by a local development order to simplify planning. The largest single scheme is Spark (formerly Phoenix 10), a 44-acre former copper works and industrial site near junction 10 being brought forward by Henry Boot Developments, Walsall Council and Homes England. It is planned for around 620,000 sq ft of employment space, with planning for demolition, further remediation and outline consent for new buildings considered in 2026.

In the town centre, the council’s Connected Gateway programme has refurbished part of the Saddlers Centre, with a second phase including demolition on Park Street in 2026 to open a route between the rail and bus stations. Further works are planned at Gallery Square and the canal basin.

Local security requirements

Typical Walsall requirements are practical rather than corporate:

  • Yard and perimeter integrity: officers check fencing, gates and lighting each patrol and record defects with photographs.
  • Plant and materials on brownfield sites: remediation contracts often leave plant on site overnight; towers and scaffold alarm cameras extend cover between patrols.
  • Out-of-hours alarms: many works close at weekends, so keyholding and alarm response avoid sending staff alone to activations, a lone-working risk the HSE asks employers to manage.
  • Phased town centre works: security plans need updating as hoardings and pedestrian routes change.

How we mobilise and manage contracts here

A manager surveys each Walsall site, writes assignment instructions with you and briefs the officers assigned to the contract. Mobile patrols use marked, satellite-tracked vehicles, and officers record each visit digitally, so you receive a timed report with any issues found. Our 24-hour control room supports officers on shift. Short-notice cover can be discussed through emergency security cover.

Services in Walsall
Can you secure a remediation site in the Darlaston enterprise zone?

Yes. Brownfield remediation sites usually need gate control during working hours, then CCTV towers or lighting towers overnight, with mobile patrols checking the perimeter. We size the package after a survey, because ground conditions and site access vary widely.

Do you need an officer on site full time to protect an industrial unit?

Not always. For many units, a combination of alarm response, a lock-up check at close of business and random patrols overnight is enough. We recommend full-time guarding only where the value at risk, the site layout or insurer requirements justify it.

How quickly can you start in Walsall?

The start date depends on the size of the site and the number of officers needed; we confirm it in writing when you accept the proposal.

Can you cover units in the town centre while refurbishment is under way?

Yes. We can guard units that remain open and inspect closed or vacant units on a schedule, checking for damage, water ingress and signs of entry. Each inspection is reported with photographs so landlords and contractors can act on defects.
