Security for Warehouses, Logistics and Distribution Centres

Seccuro’s guarding service can be configured for warehouses, distribution centres and transport yards, controlling vehicles at the gatehouse, securing loading bays and goods-in/goods-out, and protecting trailers and high-value stock around the clock.

In brief

Warehouse and logistics security protects the stock, vehicles, trailers and people moving through a distribution operation. It typically includes gatehouse control of every vehicle movement, driver and seal checks, loading bay and goods-in/goods-out supervision, yard and perimeter patrols, and monitored CCTV covering the site out of hours.

The gatehouse: controlling every vehicle movement

On a busy distribution centre the gatehouse is the main control point. Officers check HGVs, vans and visitors against booking or yard management information, verify driver identity, record vehicle and trailer registrations, and check trailer seal numbers on arrival and departure where your procedures require it. Unbooked or mismatched vehicles are held and escalated, not waved through.

We write gatehouse procedures into assignment instructions, so checks are consistent across shifts and auditable.

Loading bays, goods-in and goods-out

Loss in logistics often happens in plain sight at the dock: extra cases loaded onto a trailer, returns diverted, or stock passed through a bay door to a waiting vehicle. Officers can patrol the dock, check that bay doors are closed when not in use, monitor driver waiting areas so drivers stay out of the warehouse, and carry out searches of people and vehicles where your policy and contracts provide for it.

Yards, trailers and high-value stock

Parked trailers, fuel and tractor units are targets for curtain-slashing, load theft and fuel theft, particularly overnight and at weekends. Yard patrols check trailer security, fencing, gates and lighting. High-value cages or secure areas can have restricted key control and logged access.

What we need to know to scope the site

Typical logistics requirements include:

  • Your gatehouse, seal check and key control procedures.
  • Search policy for staff, agency workers and vehicles, with consent arrangements.
  • Cover matched to shift changeovers and peak season.
Deployment options
  • Gatehouse only: Officers controlling the main gate, with CCTV covering the rest of the site.
  • Gatehouse plus patrol: A gate officer and a patrolling officer covering docks and yard.
  • Full site team: Multiple officers covering gate, docks, search points and yard for large operations.
Compliance considerations

Officers hold an SIA Security Guarding licence. Searches must be carried out under a clear policy, with consent and contractual provision. CCTV and gate records containing personal data must follow UK GDPR and ICO guidance. Many logistics tenders ask about BS 7858 screening; we can explain our approach but do not claim certification.

Security technology

Mobile patrols use marked vehicles with satellite tracking and wearable digital patrol recording, with a digital report per visit. Off-grid CCTV towers can cover remote yards and overflow trailer parks.

Reporting

We keep gate logs of vehicle movements, seal checks and visitor records, alongside patrol records and incident reports. A periodic summary highlights exceptions such as unbooked arrivals, seal discrepancies and search findings.

Can your officers search staff and vehicles?

Yes, where your employment contracts, agency agreements and site policy provide for searches and consent is obtained. We agree the search policy, frequency, selection method and recording with you. Officers do not search without a lawful, documented basis and treat all searches with dignity.

Are you TAPA certified?

No. TAPA’s Facility Security Requirements are an industry standard used by some shippers for logistics facilities, and certification applies to the facility rather than the guarding provider. We can work to TAPA-aligned procedures specified by you or your customer, but we do not claim TAPA certification.

Do we need guards or would CCTV be enough?

For sites with live vehicle movements, a gatehouse officer is usually needed, because checks require a person. For smaller depots that close overnight, monitored CCTV with patrols and alarm response can be enough. We often combine both: officers at the gate and monitored cameras on the perimeter.

Can you provide extra officers for peak season?

Yes. We can add officers for peak trading, additional shifts and agency inductions, subject to notice agreed in the contract. Seccuro also offers rapid deployment for short-notice cover, with timescales agreed per request rather than promised in advance. Case studies are available on request.
