In brief

Corporate office security is the guarding, reception and access control service that protects an organisation’s staff, visitors, information and premises. Officers typically manage visitor and contractor sign-in, monitor access control and CCTV, patrol floors and perimeters, respond to alarms and incidents, and support building emergency procedures.

Front of house that represents your organisation

In a corporate headquarters the security officer is often the first person a client, candidate or board member meets. The role needs both vigilance and service: greeting visitors, verifying appointments, issuing passes, and spotting the person who does not belong without making genuine guests feel challenged.

Our reception security officers work to written assignment instructions covering visitor procedures, pass issue, courier and delivery handling, lost passes and escalation. Where you use a separate reception or concierge team, officers work alongside them with clearly divided responsibilities.

Access control, tailgating and information security

Electronic access control only works if someone acts on what it shows. Officers monitor door-held and forced-door alarms, challenge tailgating at speed gates and side doors, and check that staff wear passes. On internal patrols they check that secure areas, comms rooms and stores are locked and that sensitive documents are not left out on desks overnight, where your clear-desk policy asks for it.

Seccuro integrates electronic systems with guarding, so access control, intruder alarms and CCTV are part of the officer’s routine rather than separate systems no-one watches.

Out-of-hours and emergency procedures

After hours, officers manage late workers and cleaners, lock down floors, and respond to alarms. During emergencies they support your fire evacuation and invacuation procedures, meet the emergency services and control building access. These roles are agreed with your facilities team and recorded in the assignment instructions.

What we need to know to scope the site

Typical corporate requirements include:

  • Visitor pre-registration, identification checks and pass issue.
  • Monitoring of access control and CCTV at a reception or control point.
  • Scheduled internal patrols with recorded checks.
  • Your lockdown and other emergency plans.
  • Confidentiality expectations for officers working near sensitive information.
Deployment options
  • Business-hours front of house: One or more reception officers during core hours.
  • Extended or 24-hour guarding: Officers covering evenings, nights and weekends for headquarters sites.
  • Response-only cover: Keyholding, alarm response and lock and unlock for smaller offices.
Compliance considerations

Officers carrying out guarding hold an SIA Security Guarding licence and must display it while on duty. Visitor records and CCTV are personal data under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, so retention and access should follow your policies and the ICO’s guidance. The compliance and standards page explains the standards we work to.

Security technology

Seccuro provides remote CCTV monitoring with 24-hour control room support for out-of-hours periods.

Reporting

Officers keep an occurrence log covering visitors, alarms, faults and incidents. Incidents are written up and passed to your nominated contact, and we agree a periodic summary showing trends such as tailgating, alarm activations and faults reported.

What is the difference between a receptionist and a front-of-house security officer?

A front-of-house security officer provides a welcoming reception service but also carries out a licensable guarding role: verifying identity, controlling access, monitoring systems and responding to incidents. They hold an SIA Security Guarding licence and work to security assignment instructions, which a receptionist typically does not.

Can your officers use our access control and visitor management system?

Yes. We train officers on your systems during mobilisation and record the procedures in assignment instructions. That includes issuing visitor and contractor passes, responding to door alarms and reporting faults to your facilities team or system maintainer, so issues are fixed quickly.

How do officers deal with tailgating?

Officers are briefed to politely challenge anyone entering without presenting a pass, check visitors against bookings and report repeated issues. The level of challenge is agreed with you, so it fits your culture and visitor experience. Trend reporting helps you decide whether physical changes, such as speed gates, are needed.

Do we need security if most staff work hybrid?

Lower occupancy can increase risk, because fewer people notice strangers and floors are empty for longer. Many organisations reduce staffed hours but add patrols, keyholding or remote monitoring. We can adjust cover around actual occupancy patterns rather than a fixed rota.
