Security planning in the South West often starts with distance. Sites are spread along the M5 and A38 from Gloucestershire to Plymouth, and many construction and utility sites are in rural locations without mains power or passing traffic. That makes remote monitoring, off-grid camera systems and well-planned patrol routes as important as static officers.

Seccuro provides construction site security, security guarding, mobile patrols, CCTV towers, keyholding and remote CCTV monitoring across the region. We do not have a South West office.

The South West commercial landscape

Bristol is the region’s largest commercial centre, with offices around Temple Quarter and the city centre, and port and distribution activity at Avonmouth and Royal Portbury where the M5 meets the M49. Swindon, on the M4, is a long-established distribution and office location. Gloucester and Cheltenham sit on the M5 to the north, and Exeter is the main business centre for Devon.

Somerset hosts two of the largest projects in the country. EDF Energy is building Hinkley Point C, two nuclear reactors on the West Somerset coast, which Somerset Council describes as the first new nuclear reactors built in the UK in 20 years. Near Bridgwater, the Gravity Smart Campus at Puriton has been selected by Agratas, part of the Tata Group, for a large electric-vehicle battery gigafactory, which Somerset Council described as a £4 billion investment.

Further south-west, Plymouth is a naval and marine engineering centre and part of the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport, one of the eight English Freeports. Bournemouth and Poole form the main commercial area in Dorset, with financial services offices and Poole’s port.

Local security requirements

Typical considerations in the region:

  • Long travel distances between sites, which favour planned mobile patrol routes and remote monitoring over ad hoc callouts.
  • Off-grid power for camera systems on rural plots. Our towers and pods are battery-based, with solar support on some units.
  • Principal contractor rules on large projects, including inductions, permits and site-specific security plans.
  • Seasonal peaks in coastal leisure and retail, which can create short-term guarding needs.

Our article on CCTV towers for construction sites explains when towers are a better fit than static guarding.

How we mobilise and manage contracts here

We carry out a site survey, agree a written scope and assignment instructions, and assign officers holding the relevant SIA front-line licence. Camera systems are deployed after an on-site consultation. Mobilisation dates are agreed per site, and we do not promise fixed response times in advance.

Patrol records, alarm activations and incident reports are reviewed centrally, with contract reviews at agreed intervals. Short-notice cover can be requested through emergency security cover.

Do you cover Cornwall and Devon as well as Bristol?

We provide services across the South West, including Bristol, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.

Can you secure a rural site with no mains power?

Yes. Our off-grid CCTV towers, solar lighting towers and wireless scaffold alarm cameras are designed for sites without mains power. The right equipment depends on site size, sight lines, the risk profile and how alarms will be responded to.

Do you work on Hinkley Point C?

We do not claim any role on Hinkley Point C. We can provide construction security, guarding and CCTV for contractors, suppliers and laydown areas in the wider area, subject to each principal contractor’s requirements and site rules. Any work there would follow the site’s own vetting and induction process.

How are alarm activations handled at remote sites?

Monitored camera systems raise alerts that are reviewed remotely. The response is then agreed in the contract: a recorded warning, a call to the keyholder, a patrol attending or police notification. An incident report is produced after every alarm activation.
