The Yorkshire and the Humber commercial landscape
The M62 crosses the region east to west, linking Hull and Goole to Wakefield, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and Halifax before continuing over the Pennines to Greater Manchester. The M1 runs north-south through Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Wakefield, meeting the M62 at Lofthouse and continuing to Leeds, while the A1(M) passes Doncaster and Wetherby. Junctions where these routes meet, including those around Wakefield, Normanton and Castleford, are among the busiest logistics locations in the north of England.
West Yorkshire Combined Authority works with five councils: Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield. Leeds has the region’s largest office market, with growth around the city centre and South Bank. Sheffield and Rotherham share an advanced manufacturing and engineering cluster centred on the Advanced Manufacturing Park at Waverley, on the boundary between the two. Doncaster has rail-connected logistics at the iPort development close to the M18.
On the Humber, the Humber Freeport has three tax sites: Hull East, the Able Marine Energy Park (AMEP) on the south bank near Immingham, and Goole. Hull, Immingham and Grimsby are significant ports, and the estuary is a centre for offshore wind manufacturing and servicing.
Local security requirements
Typical requirements include:
- Large-format warehouse security with multiple gates, trailer parks and long fence lines.
- Shutdown cover for manufacturing sites during holiday periods.
- Exposed estuary and coastal sites where lighting and power are limited, often suited to off-grid CCTV towers.
- Empty mills, offices and shops awaiting redevelopment, covered by vacant property inspections.
Our guide to warehouse security risk assessment sets out the questions we cover during a survey.
How we mobilise and manage contracts here
Following a site survey, we prepare assignment instructions, assign officers holding the relevant SIA front-line licence and agree a start date with you. We do not quote travel or response times in advance; alarm response arrangements are agreed in the contract.
Patrol records, incident reports and supervisory visits are reviewed centrally, with contract reviews at agreed intervals. Short-notice cover can be requested through emergency security cover.

Questions
Do you have a Yorkshire branch?
No. Officers are assigned to each contract and supervised through our operations team, with reporting and review intervals agreed in the contract. We would rather be clear about this than imply a local branch.
Can you provide security for a warehouse near the M62?
Yes. Our guarding service can be configured for warehouses near the M62 and M1, covering gatehouse control, vehicle and driver checks, trailer-park patrols and loading-bay supervision. Out-of-hours cover can be provided by officers, mobile patrols or remote CCTV monitoring.
What security suits a port-side or estuary site?
Exposed sites with long perimeters often suit a combination of CCTV towers with remote monitoring, perimeter patrols and, where justified, security dog handling. We assess sight lines, lighting, access points and the value of stored equipment before recommending a mix.
Do you secure empty mills and commercial buildings?
Our vacant property security service covers scheduled inspections, security and utility checks, lock and unlock and alarm response. Inspections record the building’s condition and any signs of entry, and we can coordinate emergency remedial repairs through approved contractors.
