The East Midlands has one of the densest concentrations of large-format warehousing in Great Britain, alongside a manufacturing base in rail, aerospace and automotive engineering and the city economies of Nottingham, Leicester and Derby. Security buyers here are usually managing high-value stock, heavy vehicle movements and sites that run around the clock.

Seccuro provides security guarding, mobile patrols, keyholding and alarm response, security dog handling and remote CCTV monitoring across the region.

The East Midlands commercial landscape

The M1 is the region’s spine, running from Northamptonshire past Leicester, Nottingham and Derby to Chesterfield and South Yorkshire. It is crossed by the A14 near Rugby and Kettering, the M69 to Coventry, the A42 towards Birmingham, the A50 towards Stoke-on-Trent, and the A1 through Newark and Grantham.

The southern part of the region falls within the logistics “Golden Triangle”, a loosely defined area of distribution parks framed by the M1, M6 and M69 that extends across the boundary into Warwickshire. In Leicestershire, Magna Park near Lutterworth is one of the largest dedicated distribution parks in the country. In West Northamptonshire, the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT) beside junction 18 of the M1 combines warehousing with rail freight; a further phase, DIRFT IV, is being promoted by Prologis through the Development Consent Order process following a government direction in December 2025.

Further north, the East Midlands Freeport is one of the eight English Freeports announced in 2021. It is centred on East Midlands Airport, a major hub for express air cargo, and the neighbouring Gateway logistics park, with further sites at the former Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station in Nottinghamshire and next to Toyota’s Burnaston plant in Derbyshire. Derby itself is a centre for aerospace and rail engineering, while Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and Northampton host large logistics and food distribution estates. Lincolnshire adds food processing and cold-chain operations around Spalding, Boston and Lincoln.

Local security requirements

Large logistics sites in the region usually ask for:

 • Written gatehouse procedures covering vehicle registration checks, driver identification, seal numbers and booking-in.
 • Yard and perimeter patrols at set intervals, recorded through digital patrol logs.
 • Clear escalation routes for HGV parking, unauthorised vehicles and fence damage on sites next to busy trunk roads.
 • Out-of-hours alarm response for smaller units, sometimes with an officer attending alongside the client’s own keyholder.

Our article on distribution centre security guarding explains how these duties are usually priced and structured.

How we mobilise and manage contracts here

Much of the region sits close to the M42, M69 and M1, but we do not quote travel or response times in advance. After a site survey, we issue assignment instructions, assign officers who hold the relevant SIA front-line licence, and agree a mobilisation date with you.

Supervision, patrol records and incident reports are reviewed centrally, with contract reviews at agreed intervals. Short-notice cover is available through emergency security cover, subject to confirmation for each site.

Do you have an office in the East Midlands?

No. Officers are assigned to each contract and supervised by our operations team. We would rather be clear about this than imply a local branch that does not exist.

Can you provide gatehouse security for a distribution centre near Lutterworth or Daventry?

Yes. Our security guarding service can be configured for gatehouse control at large distribution centres, including vehicle and driver checks, seal verification, visitor logging and yard patrols. The exact duties are agreed during the site survey and written into assignment instructions.

What affects the cost of warehouse security in the region?

The main factors are the number of officer hours, whether cover is round the clock, the number of gates and patrol routes, any dog handling or CCTV requirement, and pay rates. Our guide to security guard costs explains each factor.

Can you monitor a yard remotely instead of using an officer overnight?

Often, yes. Remote CCTV monitoring with alarm response can suit yards with good camera coverage and lighting. For sites with frequent overnight vehicle movements, a static officer or a mix of officer and monitoring is usually more practical. We can trial a combination and adjust it at review.
