The North West commercial landscape

Greater Manchester is made up of ten councils: Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan. Manchester city centre and Salford hold a large and growing concentration of offices and new residential towers, MediaCityUK sits on the Salford Quays waterfront, and Trafford Park is one of the largest industrial estates in the UK. The M60 orbital connects the M62, M61, M66 and M56, and Manchester Airport sits beside the M56.

Liverpool is a major port city, with container, bulk and ferry operations along the Mersey, and the Liverpool City Region Freeport is one of the eight English Freeports. Between the two cities, Warrington and St Helens sit at the crossing of the M6 and M62, one of the busiest logistics locations in the north, with large distribution parks around Omega and the M62 junctions. Ellesmere Port and the Mersey estuary host automotive and process industry.

Further north, the M6 carries freight through Preston, Lancaster and Carlisle towards Scotland. Cumbria includes nuclear and defence-related industry around Sellafield and Barrow-in-Furness, where projects often have their own security arrangements and contractor vetting rules.

Local security requirements

Typical requirements include:

  • Large distribution sites with multiple gates and trailer parks.
  • High-rise construction where site security must cover scaffold, hoists and stored fit-out materials.
  • City-centre night-time economy considerations around offices and residential blocks.
  • Vacant commercial and industrial buildings in regeneration areas, covered by vacant property inspections.

Our article on preventing construction site theft covers practical measures for occupied city sites.

How we mobilise and manage contracts here

After a site survey, we write assignment instructions, assign officers holding the relevant SIA front-line licence and agree a mobilisation date. We do not quote travel or response times in advance; alarm response arrangements are set out in the contract.

Patrol records, incident reports and supervisory visits are reviewed centrally, with contract reviews at agreed intervals. Short-notice requests go through emergency security cover and are confirmed per site.

Do you have a Manchester or Liverpool office?

No. Officers are assigned to each contract and supervised through our operations team. We do not describe local branches because we do not have any.

Can you secure a distribution centre in Warrington or St Helens?

Yes. Our guarding service can be configured for distribution centres around the M6 and M62, including gatehouse control, vehicle checks, yard patrols and loading-bay supervision. Out-of-hours cover can come from officers, mobile patrols or remote CCTV monitoring.

How do you secure high-rise residential construction?

Usually with gate officers during working hours, wireless scaffold alarm cameras on the frame, and overnight guarding or mobile patrols. The mix depends on the build stage, the value of stored materials and the principal contractor’s logistics plan.

Do you cover Cumbria and north Lancashire?

Yes. We provide services across the North West, including Lancashire and Cumbria. For remote sites, we usually recommend a mix of camera systems, remote monitoring and planned patrols. Any client-specific vetting requirements are agreed before mobilisation.
