The East of England runs from the outer edge of London through Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Essex to Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk. It includes some of the busiest freight gateways in Great Britain and one of its most active science economies, as well as a long coastline with energy infrastructure.

The East of England commercial landscape

The Port of Felixstowe describes itself as Britain’s biggest and busiest container port, handling around 4 million TEU a year, with rail and A14 links inland. It forms part of Freeport East with Harwich, one of the eight English Freeports. The A14 carries that freight west past Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge towards the Midlands, and Peterborough, on the A1(M), is a major distribution location in its own right.

On the Thames estuary, the Thames Freeport includes DP World London Gateway and the Port of Tilbury in Thurrock, together with Thames Enterprise Park on the former Coryton refinery site. Basildon, Grays and Southend have substantial industrial and logistics estates nearby. To the west, the M1 and A1(M) corridors through Luton, Hemel Hempstead, Watford and Stevenage host airport-related logistics, offices and manufacturing.

Cambridge’s research and life sciences economy drives laboratory, office and housing construction. On the Suffolk coast, the government took a final investment decision on the Sizewell C nuclear power station on 22 July 2025, creating a long-term construction programme and supply chain activity in the surrounding area.

Local security requirements

Requirements we commonly scope here include:

  • Yard security for container and trailer storage, including vehicle checks and seal verification.
  • Large, flat, open sites where CCTV towers or security dog patrols give better coverage than a single officer.
  • Agricultural and rural commercial premises where mobile patrols and alarm response replace on-site cover.
  • Vacant commercial units awaiting redevelopment, covered through vacant property inspections.

How we mobilise and manage contracts here

We survey the site, agree scope and assignment instructions, and assign officers holding the relevant SIA front-line licence. Mobilisation dates are agreed per site, and we do not quote travel or response times in advance.

Patrol logs, incident reports and supervisory checks are reviewed centrally, with contract reviews at agreed intervals. Short-notice cover is available through emergency security cover, subject to confirmation for each site.

Can you provide security for a container yard near Felixstowe or Thurrock?

Our guarding, mobile patrol and dog handling services can be configured for container and trailer yards, covering gate control, vehicle and seal checks, and perimeter patrols. Remote CCTV monitoring can cover quieter periods. We do not claim existing port contracts.

Do you cover Norfolk and Suffolk as well as Essex and Hertfordshire?

Yes. We provide services in every county of the region, from Hertfordshire and Essex to Norfolk and Suffolk.

What security suits an open rural compound?

Open compounds are often best covered by off-grid CCTV towers with remote monitoring, backed by planned patrols or alarm response. Static guarding or dog handling can be added where the value of plant or materials, or the incident history, justifies it.

Can you secure a laboratory or research building?

Our reception security and guarding services can be configured for research buildings, including visitor control, contractor sign-in and out-of-hours patrols. Specific requirements, such as restricted areas or hazardous materials procedures, are agreed with your site team and written into assignment instructions.
